Applied for the job online and heard back about a month later. Originally, I was supposed to speak with three people, including the department manager, but I was told he was busy. Instead, I had an hour long conversation with two members of the department.
I do not get a job offer. The consideration of me was over less 2 seconds of meeting the interviewers. I made the unforgivable mistake of being older. I could see it in their eyes, body language and tone of the questioning, that they had no interest in talking to me due to my age. During certain points of the process, I had to lead the questioning process.
I answered all the question asked easily, and under normal circumstances, would have expected to continue on in the process. Instead, they seemed more concerned about me infecting their conference table with my old-guy cooties and if they'd need to have it fumigated later on.
Obviously, 30 years of solid software development, test and integration experience aren't enough there to overcome being over a certain age. They must have had some idea that I was over 50, given the amount of practical experience I had on my resume. This was a job I was more than qualified for and I was willing to work below the wage of anyone else they could have hired. I wish they'd been honest about their prejudice and terminated the interview on the spot.
Of course, I never heard back from the Aristocrat HR representative. I gather that if they pass on a candidate, they can't be bother with a email.
