There is one round with the professor you will be working with. In my case it is a finance professor and mainly asking coding questions in SQL. There are 4-5 questions in total and they are all pretty basic. After that you need to express your interest in the job, like why research in this field as well as speaking on your background.

I applied online, then i got an offer for an interview in person. The interview was 30 mins, they asked about my background and my experiences and weeks later i got the offer.

Just sending the professor you interested. And then, if they are not replying, you will just need to politely add a follow-up message. Then if the professor interested you, they will have a coffee chat with you
