      Colloquio

I applied online back in July through a referral, and a week later was contacted to set up a phone interview with the hiring manager. The call went pretty well - he explained the position in detail, asked me why I was interested, along with a few behavioral questions. A day later I was contacted to schedule an interview with the HR recruiter, which took place a week later (also over the phone). This interview was more of a "culture fit" test, as Eventbrite is very big on making sure their employees fit in. This interview also went well, and was fairly easy and straightforward. The call was supposed to take 30 minutes, but only took 12-15. At the end of the call, she told me I would be moving along to the next round. The next round (it is now mid-August) involved a 3 hour Google Hangout interview split into 30 minute segments. I "virtually" met with 5 people from the field operations and sales teams, along with the HR recruiter I had spoken to two weeks prior. Again, the questions were all fairly straightforward, but tended to get repetitive, as introducing yourself / answering the same questions 5 times in a row tends to be. After that, I was invited to Eventbrite's HQ for another 3-hour round of in-person interviews. They graciously paid for my round-trip flight and accommodations. I met with five different people from the field operations, sales, and customer service teams, and another HR recruiter. I nailed 5 out of 6 of the interviews - one of my interviewers asked me a few technical questions that I fumbled on. I recovered as best as I could, and made sure to ask him what the correct answers were, and to assure him that I'm a fast learner and can pick up on technical concepts quickly. He also asked me what my favorite Ninja Turtle was, and after I fumbled on that could tell he wasn't sold. It worried me, but I figured it was okay since I could tell that the hiring manager really liked me. Apparently I was wrong - after meeting with 12 people (it is now September), I received an email from HR asking me to "work" with the team at one of Eventbrite's events they were having locally in my town. I accepted, thinking they were going to hire me, they just wanted to see me in the field. I would be working with two of the people I had interviewed with previously (one of which was the guy who had asked me all of those technical questions) and was told that it would be a long day 6am - 8pm on a Saturday, which was no problem for me. Throughout the day, I made sure to observe, ask questions, and pitch in when needed.I thought that everything went well, so when the HR recruiter emailed me asking to give me a call, I was expecting good news. However, she let me know that they were no longer pursuing me as a candidate. Overall, this was an exhausting process - I don't regret going through it, and looking back, I realize the position may not have been the best fit for me, but I really do wish that the team had the ability to see that I wasn't a fit for the position earlier on.
