My interview process with Genesys included:
A 30-minute call with a recruiter, A 30-minute interview with the BDR manager, A 1-hour panel interview that included a live discovery call roleplay, A 30-minute call with the Head of Business Development
Despite showing up prepared, engaged, and eager to learn, I was not offered the position. The reasoning provided was that I didn’t fully implement the coaching offered during the live discovery call.
While I respect the team’s decision, I found it disappointing and honestly unfair to expect a candidate—without access to the full product, training, or internal BD strategy—to perform at the level of someone already in the role. Discovery calls are nuanced, and success depends heavily on product understanding and real-world exposure, which I was not given in the interview process.
I put in my best effort, stayed curious, and asked thoughtful questions. I wish the team had weighed potential and coachability more heavily, especially for an entry-level position.
Overall, I left the experience feeling discouraged—not because of the outcome, but because of how unrealistic the expectations were for someone still outside the company
