Colloquio
A few days after applying a video call was set up with someone in San Diego. It was incredibly general and short, so I am not sure how they use this as a filter.
I was then offered an on site interview. Firstly I was brought around the office and introduced to everyone. It was nice but a bit strange, it felt more like it was my first day working there.
I was then interviewed by my potential boss and a colleague. The thing you must know about GoFundMe is that the people that work there think have an extremely over inflated idea of the work they are doing. They think they are saving the world one donation at a time. All of their questions are the typical tech company silly questions we have all heard about.
The interview lasts two hours, maybe more. At one point you are put with one of the staff members and shadow them for half an hour (again, feels like its your first day).
I realised at the interview that this company is extremely cult like. You have to be OBSESSED with your job, co workers and the companies philosophy. They also ask you if you are willing to hang out with your colleagues after hours which I just dont think is appropriate. Some people may have heavy family commitments so therefore cannot do this but would be excellent employees.
Tip: they are also obsessed with diversity so make sure you bring this up.
I was not offered the role but if I was I dont think I would have accepted as I didnt like the atmosphere in the company. No one is that happy all the time.
The interview consisted in two steps. The first one was short while in the second one you get to speak with different people, and do a brief exercise, a shadowing session and the final interview.

After few days I applied I received a call just to test the languages I spoke, then I’ve had to answer many other questions about my previous working experience and all the relationships among colleagues.

I cold-applied to the Account Manager role, not thinking too much about it because I knew GoFundMe was a big name and I don't have any connections there. To my surprise, about a week later, a recruiter reached out to me saying that they reviewed my application and they wanted me to apply through this link attached in the message...which was the same application I had applied with a week prior. I was excited for the company and role though, so I brushed it off, resubmitted the application and let the recruiter know I applied with their link. They confirmed receipt and said they would have an update by the end of the week. The end of the week passes without an update, so the following Monday, I shoot the recruiter an email asking for an update. The recruiter emails back within a few hours letting me know that they filled the role...but feel free to connect with them on LinkedIn in case more roles open up!
Why on earth would you ask someone to REFILL out the entire application when you clearly had other candidates in the pipeline that were in the final stages of the interview process? Needless to say, this brief experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I was bummed at first but I am glad I dodged the bullet if this is how candidates are treated.
