You were hired simply from your application. There was no interview. If your application and back check were adequate then you were offer the job. It was more of a bulk hiring with no attemp to screen the applicants at all.

They hired you based on your application only. From looking at the group of people that they hired I would suggest that they desperately need a interview process.

Colloquio
I went to the IRS in-person hiring event. It was a really simple process of registering and fingerprinting. No actual interview questions were asked. The whole process took about three hours.
Direct hire. Needed basic info and was hired on the spot. It was quite a simple process, just long. Come with everything they request or you may be turned away.
No interview was required for this position, just applied and was offered the position. Began as a clerk and did that for two years to get my foot in the door.
