Through a recruiter, I was contacted by a director-level head of a PMO which was starting up. She was very busy, explained the situation and I was able to depict for her how I had enjoyed successes in past engagements in building & operating PMOs. Since she was in a hurry, she hired me after a 20-minute discussion. Six months later, they laid everyone off and bought out the long-timers because the stock price was depressed from losses caused by poor executive management decisions that incurred excess overhead costs and becoming less competitive by trying to do business in areas they had no expertise. BTW, all work was performed remotely - which is not an option in this system.
