I recently interviewed for a position at Kimpton. The interview went great. However, you really have to make yourself stand out against the other applicants. The position requires someone with hospitality experience. I was able to explain how my experience and skills would make me an asset to the company.

I have over 8 years experience in sales and sales management, most recently directly training and managing a team of 50-75 salesmen. I’m not afraid to start small and work my way up through a company if it’s one that I believe in. I was sent an email a week later saying that I didn’t meet their criteria even though the job description on their website asked for 1-2 years sales experience. I wasn’t even granted a phone call from a recruiter. Perhaps I’m over-qualified, but why on earth would I submit an application unless I truly wanted to work for Kimpton? Same thing happened with Marriott, who owns Kimpton. Honestly, what a joke.

Lengthy and informative process however, interviewers were disingenuous and misleading. If management already know that applicant doesn’t have enough experience required, it is somewhat unnecessary to have candidate go through entire process to learn they’re not good enough for the position.
