Thanks for your feedback, we value it greatly and admit you were one of our first candidates when we had not yet crisply defined what we needed in this role (as our first Analytics hire). We have since better defined and streamlined the process for future candidates and have implemented a process of better screening candidates over the phone before asking them to make a deeper time investment.
For this role specifically, we've better calibrated who we are looking for and begun working with a recruiter. We've also reduced the number of steps in the interview process. Our goal remains to get to know the candidate well, but more importantly, to give the candidate an opportunity to get to us well to ensure they have the information they need to make a decision about whether or not this is the right fit for them, hence the multi-stage process.
The vision for the Director of Analytics role is now better defined. It's the first Analytics hire at Tulip, so it took some time to really understand what the role would encompass and who the right person for the role would be.
While a lot has been defined, a lot has intentionally been left undefined so that the person that comes in to this role can influence how Analytics comes to be defined at Tulip. We're looking for a strategic leader who can tell us what needs to be done to use data better to make key business decisions.
The take-home assignment is meant to determine technical ability, it is not meant to relate to the business, but rather measure fitness for the role.
As with everything we do at Tulip, we're constantly looking to improve our business processes, including recruiting practices. We'll continue to take feedback in all forms, even when our sample size is small!
