Vantaggi
Penguin Formula has a very nice and friendly environment. Since there are a lot of foreigner employees (some of them are even in Portugal for the first time when they join the Company), there`s a lot of efforts done trying to make employees feel supported and assisted. This work is not always shown and visible, but it exists and it is there.
Every Friday, Penguin provides a happy hour at a bar near the office, to where every employee can bring their spouses, kids, friends, etc, who are always welcomed at the office and invited to the Company events, such as Christmas and summer parties. Every semester there are also tours to visit and check on the employees placed abroad as an attempt to make them feel closer to the Company.
The Company is growing and there is a lot of room to create and build whatever you want (depending on your position, of course, but I think this is the general line).
Salaries are paid on time.
The health insurance is quite good.
There is free fruit once a week at the office, as well as daily free coffee and tea.
Svantaggi
Penguin Formula is still learning how to deal with the normal issues of being a Company. It needs to improve communication and to be more organized, especially in terms of the management of internal projects.
The office is very well located, but being separated in two different floors with several rooms is not positive. It keeps people apart and promotes the existence of groups instead of promoting union among collaborators. An open space would be a plus.
Employees, in general, only notice the 10% that the Company cannot accomplish/provide/solve (whether the Company should or not arrange/solve that particular item), and forget all the other 90% that is daily given, made and arranged on their behalf.
If you come as a developer, especially if you are from another country, you should think about that fact that most of the companies would not pick you up at the airport, provide you a home during the first 2 months in Portugal (or permanently in case you are out placed), help you with your and your family personal problems, etc.
If you come to an office position (management or not) you must be prepared to deal with a lot of complaints, some maybe unfair and even ungrateful.
