Vantaggi

The position was a listed as a junior level position I was upfront about my experience for the position and the interview process went very well. I asked if I could handle a fast paced environment. I had worked in tight deadlines before, so I told them that I could handle it. They then mentioned that one of their previous employees punched a hole in the wall from the stress. I laughed it off and assured them that I wasn’t that kind of person. It was a very light and fun process talking with the department. I was assured that they had access to great training services. I was introduced to the company the first day. There was some issue with setting up orientation the first day, so my coworker asked if I wanted to help him out with some work. I jumped straight into the workload the first day of hire. Worked through the first week with a colleague showing me the process of things as we worked. It was a fast-passed environment like mentioned. The department was very busy every day. I ended up fitting in orientation the second and third week when I could. I was treated nicely and positively for the first couple of weeks. Most questions that I asked my supervisor were deferred to my coworker because my supervisor was busy. I repeatedly asked my coworker if my performance was acceptable. The coworker assured me that I was doing fine and that most of the things that I was falling short on were logistical things that take a lot of time to get used to.

Svantaggi

Then out of the blue received an email from my supervisor over a month after hire telling me that my performance was suboptimal. HR was attached on the email, so I knew it was serious. I was scheduled for a meeting to review performance with my supervisor and HR after 35 days, when previously I had signed a paper stating upon hire that the review would be after 90 days. My supervisor was the only one that came to the meeting and told me during the meeting for the first time that I was finishing things too slowly and was not fulfilling the position. I respond by giving examples of things that often cause hang ups in my working speed (logistical). Supervisor insisted the issues were elsewhere. Told me to ask more questions when I was confused. I was told I would be given a chance to improve my pace in a week. I was told to sign the paper about the meeting. My supervisor encouraged me to talk to HR if I had any questions about the review. One of my coworkers removed me from a group chat service that the department uses as soon as I got back to my desk after the review meeting. In the following days I sought out HR and mentioned that I had no warning of my performance. HR seemed unaware of the review even though HR was attached in the email about the meeting. I gave HR a copy of the paper that I signed in the meeting to read over. HR responded to the email very nonchalantly saying that all I have to do is insure that I do my best and ask more questions to improve my work quality. Even though I had a feeling that there was no salvaging my job and that the decision to let me go had already been made I worked after hours whenever I could if there were projects that needed to be done that day or early the next morning. I asked questions whenever I had any doubt in the answer. I was conscientious to my co-worker’s and supervisor’s busy schedules when asking questions, but still I could feel that they were becoming irritated within the first day of the week. My supervisor began to avoid me by working in a different room instead of the open cubical. I asked a few questions and my supervisor completely ignored me even though we were sitting 2 feet away from each other with no other sounds negating our communication. I leaned heavily on my coworker with anything I was confused about. My coworker never had any criticism of my work and answered my questions whenever possible. I was working after hours one day and ran into a problem. My coworked had left and was unavailable to email. I was told to call my supervisor in this situation who was working from home. When I called and asked a client related question my supervisor answered with vague and unrelated answer not knowing the specific project. Her questions to clarify what I was referring to were very hostile until I was eventually told that I should have known how to work this job from day one. The next week all but one coworker acted like I wasn’t there. Towards the end of the week my supervisor scheduled a follow up meeting for the review. HR was at the meeting this time. They asked me how I think I did during the review. I told them I did my best during the week, often putting in extra hours and asking questions whenever I needed to. I said that I was working through the issues and thought I was improving. My supervisor handled the termination very poorly. I am guessing my supervisor told the department the day I would be let go because there was no one in the office. She then offered to walk me of the company because allegedly “it would be less embarrassing” for me to walk out with my supervisor than to walk out by myself.

Vantaggi

The people that have been at the company prior to the merge are wonderful and really care about the work they're doing

Svantaggi

No collaboration across agencies; lack of clear vision for the future; executives only interested in cutting costs which has led to sending jobs overseas.
