My time at BYD UK has been a mixed experience, reflecting a blend of youthful energy from the colleagues and significant challenges from the upper management. Colleagues: The colleagues at BYD UK are generally young and dynamic. Many of the Chinese colleagues are fresh graduates, bringing a lot of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. On the other hand, the English managers tend to be more senior, providing a balance of experience and stability within the team. Management: The most significant pressure comes from the upper management, which is predominantly composed of Chinese managers. These managers, who have been promoted internally after working in the company for over a decade, often lack knowledge of European business practices. Their management style tends to be very harsh, characterized by rudeness and ruthlessness. They manage through fear and shouting, which creates a challenging and often hostile work environment. Gender Dynamics: Being a woman at BYD UK can be particularly difficult. Women often find themselves at a disadvantage, facing additional challenges that their male counterparts do not. This gender imbalance in treatment and opportunities is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
