Vantaggi
My coworkers are wonderful, friendly people who I'd say I've developed a lasting relationship with if not a friendship. The employee discount is great and so is being around books all day. The manager is flexible with the schedule if you need to ask for a day off or something(but with a huge guilt trip attached).
Svantaggi
The manager is hard to read. She takes out her stress on the employees on random occasions by finding something wrong with seemingly EVERYTHING you are doing that was perfectly fine yesterday. Also, we are expected to do practically everything to keep the store running, aside from doing the major paperwork and paying the bills, yet we get minimum wage with no chance of a raise or full-time hours. Our job title is technically "Book Seller", but it should really be divided into six separate titles: Cashier, Stocker, Inventory Checker, CSR, Receptionist, and even Janitor. There's really no opportunity for any advancement in the "Book Seller" career unless the manager would quit and you could even try to move up. The amount of hours allotted to the store to be split between maybe three/four employees is dismal, leaving an expected 10-20 hours a week per person(on the side of 10 being more likely). Also, the store is hardly ever closed. Christmas, the 4th of July, and Thanksgiving are, I believe, the only holidays the store is actually closed, whereas any others, the store is simply open less hours.
