Vantaggi
Although base pay is somewhat low, bonuses are often exceptional (a holdover from the days when BorgWarner was private and upper management was incentivized). Current ineffective CEO is thankfully being replaced this year (none too soon).
Svantaggi
BorgWarner's main problems stem from their "operating model" which places full fiscal responsibility and authority on the individual plants. While this is good for short-term results, it drives the plant managers to minimize staff, cut corners and ignore the future. Engineers are chronically understaffed, HR has no role (no training, etc.) and support systems (like IT) are outdated or ineffective. It also results in extreme competition between plant managers as they vie to be recognized by their distant management. There is also a move to rid the company of higher paid, more experienced employees, as their salaries are higher than new recruits. To avoid age discrimination lawsuits, experienced employees sometimes find their "jobs eliminated". Top performers are recognized but then fall out of favor. Best to keep your head down. The lack of career development, lack of loyalty to top performers and politics make this a place where one does not want to spend much time at. Understaffing, lack of career development, and lack of a future vision is in stark contrast to others of similar size. Upper (corporate) management is disconnected, arrogant and often is involved in "infighting". They need to lead and have a vision.
