The Owner/CEO’s reluctance to delegate responsibilities and trust the team significantly hindered the company’s growth. While the interview process was refreshingly short, especially compared to the lengthy, multi-step processes at other firms—it became clear that the company was rushing to hire in order to staff its new Tysons Corner, VA office. Turnover was alarmingly high during my time there, which reflected broader internal challenges. Several promises made during the hiring process were not fulfilled. Even basic initiatives, like implementing sales tools or updating the CRM, faced long delays because the Owner insisted on being involved in every decision, limiting the authority of the VPs. Quota expectations were also unrealistic. Setting targets at twice the industry average for a startup, especially compared to what established companies expect—made attainment nearly impossible.
