Vantaggi

-Some of the best people I have ever worked with, - The mission is something we all believe in -Pay is on par with other OPOs

Svantaggi

-Healthcare benefits are on par, but another option other than Kaiser and Sutter would be great. -Toxic leadership from CEO which borders on harassment - Constant fear of being terminated, It's a job where we are all stewards of the gift the donors and their families gave, in which all of us work diligently to do the very best for the donor family. Unfourtunately, our current CEO's leadership ability is poor at best, and at worst is toxic. You will work your very hardest to make it all happen, but the minute you fail you will be told that because of you "recipients will die." I have never met the CEO, we have never had a CEO breakfast or lunch that the odd 5 star reviews have mentioned. The only time I have heard from the CEO is when she does something horrific, or when she writes a CEO corner. That said, if we had a different CEO I would rate this organization five stars, but because of our current CEO we have lost a ton of experienced clinical coordinators who were perhaps the best in the field because of her mismanagement.

Thank you for your sharing your perspective as a DNWest employee, as we not only value diversity among our staff, but we also welcome and celebrate differences in opinions as this helps elevate our organization as we work to save and heal lives. We truly appreciate your positive feedback highlighting our employee compensation package. We’ve worked diligently over the last several years to ensure that our compensation strategy is in line with the rest of the Organ Procurement Organizations, but is also competitive with the higher cost of living in our service area. We greatly appreciate the hard work and commitment of our employees and strive to ensure that their compensation packages accurately reflect this appreciation. Our CEO Janice Whaley holds numerous department meetings and lunches in an effort to interact with front line staff on a regular and routine basis. In addition to actively advocating and moving forward our life saving mission, our CEO is committed to creating meaningful and positive employee experiences, making herself available to all employees who would like to connect with her. As you haven’t been fortunate enough to attend any of these meetings just yet, we invite you to reach out to our human resources department to help facilitate an individual meeting with Janice so that she can address some of your concerns personally. We have three healthcare options spread across Northern California (2) and Northern Nevada (1). Two of the three options were made available within the last two years in response to employee requests for additional medical plans. As we’ve explained in DNWest town hall meetings and company communications, many insurance companies refuse to work with DNWest unless we cancel the Kaiser option. A substantial percentage of our employee population prefers Kaiser and we would displace a large number of people if we were to eliminate the Kaiser plan. In 2020, we surveyed the staff asking if people were willing to pay increased costs for similar coverage if we chose to discontinue the Kaiser benefit and employees were not in favor of this change. Kaiser is the largest health plan in California - which makes it more difficult to end our relationship with them in favor of other providers. We will continue to explore more options if and when they become available. Over the last 2+ years we have made significant improvement to our benefit offerings for employees such as enhancing our 403(b) employer match to encourage increased employee participation and implementing new benefits such as long term care insurance for employees and their family members, college savings plans, pet insurance, and an employee discount program just to name a few. Donor Network West follows a strict due process procedure and has a zero tolerance policy regarding retaliation. Employees are strongly encouraged and free to speak about their work environment as we promote transparency across the organization. The resulting open communication and ensuing dialogue is invaluable to leadership as we continue to build a culture that supports the mission of saving and enhancing hundreds of lives a year through the gift of organ and tissue donation. Our CEO openly engages with and is accountable to waiting recipients, donors, donor families, and DNWest staff throughout northern California and Nevada. 17 people die each day in our nation waiting on a second chance at life. In our donation service area alone 3 to 4 people die each day waiting to receive the gift of life. Patients waiting on the list are counting on us to do our very best each and every single day. Our mission is to save and heal lives through organ and tissue donation and research - it is who we are, what we do, and we are incredibly proud of it.

Good pay, dedicated co-workers, good management, and well-staffed, with a lot of room for advancement. Regular raises and bonuses every year. One of the best OPOs I've ever worked for, and I've worked for multiple.

Svantaggi

Health insurance could be better, but the benefits are good overall.
