Effective performance and development conversations between managers and employees not only help employees understand how they are performing now, they provide insights into what is next. Having consistent career and performance conversations is the best method for ensuring people stay on the right track. At Elements, those conversations happen quarterly and for some, even more frequently. We encourage managers and employees to set up a cadence that works for them. There has been quite a lot of turnovers in upper management over the past few years. This has been related to retirement, personal issues and such, but it does make for a more difficult transition.

Executive leadership has become increasingly disconnected from employees and the organization’s mission. Promotions often appear driven by favoritism, internal politics, and popularity rather than performance or leadership ability. This has damaged morale and created a lack of trust in leadership decisions. The biggest disappointment has been the noticeable decline in member focus and service culture. An organization that once prioritized members now feels more concerned with internal agendas and optics. Employees are held to high standards while leadership often appears to operate under a different set of expectations, leading to frustration, disengagement, and turnover and early retirements.

Creating a transparent and fair environment is a priority for us, and feedback like yours is an important part of learning. While many employees share positive experiences with our leadership and culture, we understand that not every experience is the same, and we are committed to listening and taking thoughtful action. We want to share a broader view of the progress underway. Over the past year, we have made significant investments in both member and employee experience, including enhancements to our digital banking capabilities, technology platforms, and internal tools that support our teams’ ability to serve members effectively. We have also continued to prioritize internal growth by expanding roles, creating new career paths, and promoting from within wherever possible, creating additional opportunities for advancement across the organization. Equally important, we have been intentional about strengthening connection and engagement. This includes the introduction of employee resource and interest groups, ongoing listening channels, and efforts to create more opportunities for employees to build relationships and share feedback across teams. Serving our members remains at the core of who we are, and we are actively working to ensure that focus is consistently reflected in both our decisions and daily work. This was an important factor in creating our new Branch Facilities & Operations and Experience & Member Engagement leadership roles. We also agree that strong cultures are built on shared expectations. We are committed to reinforcing accountability and high standards at all levels of the organization, and we know that trust is built over time through consistent actions. The progress we’ve made as an organization, including strong performance across key financial and growth metrics last year, reflects the dedication of our team and our continued focus on delivering value to those we serve.
