Vantaggi

All coworkers and leads are nice, and clearly great at what they do, and know how to get stuff done. The work itself is organized well. The team is extremely diverse, and has lots of points of view to contribute to conversations. Everyone working there seems to be a very interesting and engaging individual outside of work. The work and product is fun and interesting, and it has alot of potential.

Svantaggi

Upper management and C-Suite will treat you like Input/Output pipeline. No one really cares about you as a person, outside of how much you work and what you give to the company. Absurdly, every once in a while there is an internal post about a huge life event an employee is clearly proud of (marriage, or something in that vein) but I'm sure no one really knows anything about that employee -- everyone says their obligatory congrats and it's like it never happened the next day. Clocking in and clocking out felt very surreal at times (which you are required to do, re: tracking software). The CEO is a black box. In my entire time working there, they have never been on any team calls despite a fairly small company. If he ever was on a call, he must have been unimpressive because he did not stand out or make themselves known. Not public facing at all, but yet not really on terms with employees. It's dubious and doubtful if they really understand the day-to-day tasks at the company. i wasn't even sure they existed (and still don't) -- and this is the person who is in charge of some of the most important decisions. Does not inspire confidence. Upper management decisions seem to be based on numbers, spreadsheets, and dubious statistics about employee output, despite the relatively small size of the company. There isn't much learning or input upper management seeks from the lowly employee. Huge company decisions seemingly come out of nowhere, and it is difficult to say whether there is much discussion outside of a short 5min panel about the new company direction. Company uses pretty invasive time-tracking methods (see, HubStaff), and will escalate to tracking links & screenshots if they think you are not working enough rather than initiate discussions & set clearer team goals/priorities more regularly. Company communication across departments is nearly non-existent. It is difficult to say what another departments goals are and how they align with the company vision. There isn't much room to help departments out with what they're working on. Company communication within departments generally can be pretty good, but sometimes suffers on a 1:1 basis with coworkers. 90% of all communication is text-based. The company vision itself is shaky. There are vague notions of using NFTs in video games in a scalable way, however it does not go much beyond that. I never heard talk about the kind of world or community company ultimately wants to cultivate, or the ultimate end goals of their product outside of talk about token price. Use of product to the greater world of humanity is vague. Unclear how much upper management understand about crypto. Because of the way the company is structured, promotions and the path to them are very opaque. There is no performance review cycle, at least not a transparent one, and employees are left with a grit-and-grind cycle of completing their tasks and moving on. Most design is left to upper management, and the designs are generally not good. Designs from technically capable people who are not yet very far up are much better, but it seems do not have as much say in company direction or decisions. There is alot of room to be autonomous, but because of the opaque company vision and goals, the scope of autonomy is very limited. You might be able to design something cool within the small framework you work with, but if you work outside of that it's a shot in the dark if mgmt will like it or it will be useful. No benefits, if you need health insurance or a 401k have fun shopping around elsewhere. Most video calls you are on, people don't have their cameras on. Not something anyone should require, but it stems out of deeper organizational & cultural issues.
