After 12 years of service and loyalty to a company I was once incredibly proud to work for, my experience towards the end felt like being pushed out through internal processes and a lack of transparency from management. The phrase “if your face fits” became a common sentiment within teams, as it was always the same individuals receiving recognition, awards and the most desirable opportunities. This was something that was frequently discussed across teams and created a sense that progression was not always based purely on merit. What was once a flexible, friendly and supportive workplace increasingly felt more corporate and commercially driven, with far less focus on employee wellbeing and development than in previous years. During my final period at the company there was a noticeable amount of turnover within the team, with several colleagues leaving within a short space of time and others struggling with the pressure of the working environment. After more than a decade with the business, it was disappointing to see the culture change so significantly and to leave under circumstances that felt avoidable with better communication and leadership.
