Surrounded by hard workers with exceptional talent who were hungry to grow the brand, it was a true meritocracy where good work was rewarded and folks from all aspects of Faherty Life (Stores to HQ) had what seemed to be endless growth potential. I was part of this incredible phase of the company through the first half of my employment and for that, I will always hold the brand close to my heart -- we grew so much together. As they began to expand and I mean EXPAND from 9 to just under 70 stores in about 2 years, this wave of change brought with it new management teams and their corporate mentalities. These were VPs, Directors, and even C-Suite level employees who quickly dismantled company culture and demanded newer more insurmountable levels of productivity. If job descriptions were adjusted to account for new responsibilities or if additional compensation was awarded, these never came across my desk or those on my immediate team. When offering risk assessments and solutions to improve revenue in a very pivotal moment for the brand's health, I was consistently met with varying levels of retaliation from my superiors through to HR where I was effectively silenced and removed from any further conversations about my department. With the corporate pros building a new reality, you'd expect at least humble improvements to the business, however, we continued to witness month after month of big misses company-wide. After YEARS in the green, the performance was shocking and totally avoidable. Despite many promises that the HQ team would improve planning and overall management, it was the norm for decisions to be made the day of or change while a project was already live. Hey! Businesses need to pivot, that's, unfortunately, the name of the game. If you're joining the Faherty team ,however, do be prepared to give up weekends, holidays, or PTO as each day brings new unthinkable obstacles to overcome. I was never bored.

Working with a premium lifestyle brand gives strong exposure to retail best practices, styling, and customer relationship building for skills that transfer well across the industry.

Career growth and advancement opportunities are limited. As Faherty continues to scale rapidly, internal structures and formalized development paths haven’t kept pace, making it difficult to see a clear trajectory upward. Promotions and new roles tend to be filled reactively rather than through intentional talent development, leaving motivated employees feeling stagnant. For those looking to grow within the company long-term, the lack of defined mentorship or training programs can be a frustration, especially given the brand’s momentum.

At the store level, Faherty truly is one of the best. Teams are passionate, leaders are generally respectful, and there is a genuine sense of community. The products themselves are high quality, well-made, thoughtfully designed, and backed by a company that stands behind what it sells.

Unfortunately, the experience of Faherty HQ tells a very different story. The “family” culture promoted by leadership feels performative at best. Unless you are comfortable engaging in excessive favoritism and navigating a culture driven by ego and outdated power dynamics, I would strongly suggest exploring other options. Corporate leadership routinely underbuys inventory for existing stores, leaving teams to operate with minimal product while prioritizing the opening of new locations. Established stores are expected to consistently meet goals despite limited inventory, failing technology, insufficient labor hours, and chronic understaffing. Missed targets are met with reprimands rather than support, even when the circumstances are entirely out of the store’s control. Communication between HQ and stores is either overwhelming or nonexistent. There are countless Slack channels offering conflicting information, constant changes to internal platforms, and shifting standards and training tools that make consistency nearly impossible.
