Foerster Instruments, Inc. (FII) is owned by the Institut Dr. Foerster (IFR) located in Germany. The perception received at the Pittsburgh office is we are 2nd class in the company. Anything produced in Germany is better than anything produced in the American office, and the German employees are more important than the American. The IFR, and the other German divisions have often made engineering changes to products and not forwarded the change information to FII, Often the changes have gone unnoticed for years until a problem arises, then the German division tries to chastise the American division for not producing the product per the current revision. The IFR is slowly taking more control over the American division. ISO: While being an ISO certified company is a definite selling point, it is often a detriment to efficiency and productivity. It is not the ISO system itself, but the way the FII system is written. They are fully compliant with an excellent record and reputation, but they have made many aspects of their ISO protocols more cumbersome and restrictive than they need to. Base pay, bonuses and raises could be better.
