Vantaggi
Working with library patrons and the community was truly the highlight of my experience here.
Svantaggi
-This organization is SUPER micromanaged at every level. -If you are not a librarian you will be talked down to and treated as disposable. I felt like just another warm body to man the information desk. -FBCL does not want to hear feedback from its employees. The director removed a function called something like "ask the director" because her and library administration couldn't take the scrutiny for its employees -Co-workers would be sent to work at different branches with little to no notice and you really have no option. -Plan on driving to Richmond regularly. I had to drive to Richmond at least 2 times a month. This was not clearly communicated to me during my interview. -The morale in this organization is absolutely atrocious 😭 Mostly everyone I talked to had such a poor outlook on the organization as well. It's really suffocating after awhile. -Library administration does not want feedback from its employees. -They don't want you to communicate to HR or other county employees which seemed so shady to me. They prefer you to go through the library system's business office. - You have to complete 20 training hours annually if you are FT and 10 if PT. I learned nothing from any of these trainings. - Every meeting/training is in person. the director and library administration is so scared of technology and virtual meetings. You are expected to comply with every order library admin and your branch management bark at you.
