Pay was decent.. It's to suck you in and make you accept the crazy as normal. If you ignore all the pink elephants around the building and are fine with mediocrity in the product you make, you can make some new drinking buddies.

They will tell you that they are in a “transitional period”, and go through some of the things they had to do to “get to where we are now”, including blame past employees for things that are wrong. You’ll hear how the owners are people of faith, and how this is a tight-knit, family culture. You’ll probably get walked around the building as they point out new things, and improvements they have made. You’ll get introduced to people, and see the owners joke around with employees, hugging some, acting like coming to work is like a big recess break. They’ll feed you "family culture" and "servant leadership" and a few other buzzy sounding feely-good slogans. (My favorite was “culture of accountability”… must have been opposite day when they said that one)) Truth is, they will treat you like family until you challenge one of them, then you become the red-headed step child. This family is cold, divisive, and abusive. In the two years I was there, about 80% of the employees turned over... Accountants, Program Managers, Engineers, Production workers, tool makers, designers, programmers... all departments have struggled to keep talent. Nepotism is in full-effect. Family owned = family run… often times, to the companies detriment. They take forever to pay their bills. I was constantly getting contacted by vendors, including utility providers, wanting paid, and I did not work in Accounts Payable. It seemed that nobody did. Small company = small benefits. No vision, no dental and a Very high medical deductible. The President and CEO has a nasty temper and a personality that borders on maniacal, and would often yell and scream during meetings… He’d yell to the point spittle would fly from his mouth and he’ d have to wipe it. In one conversation with him, he referred to his large Hmong contingent of workers as "godless people" who "cannot be trusted” because they "do not have a higher power holding them accountable”.
