Felt exploited, long hours, terrible treatment, used to have double pay on bank holidays then took this away for time in lieu, expected to stay for long hours, sometimes 16 hours or more and told it was non-negotiable and disciplinary action would be taken if you refused, often felt bullied, actually vomited on shift once before the store opened and manager refused to open shutter when I asked to leave. Extremely stressful around peak times- you are given unrealistic targets and time frames. Oh, and you never get a pay rise. This was ok as something to support me through sixth form and university but now that I have employed in other establishments for the past 2 years I truly realise what a terrible employer matalan is. No opportunity for progression and often made promises that never materialised. And as other people have said- forced to sell matalan cards to customers. Argh!
