Vantaggi

The work itself is great and fulfilling. The company's mission statement about "Safeguarding Global Health" makes the job much more meaningful.

Svantaggi

Where to start? First of all, the HR department is atrocious. They claim to accommodate disabilities, but that's simply not the case. While trying to get ADA accommodations, I was told by HR that "I'm looking for an excuse to be late to work" and "we can't accommodate your particular disability". I was also told that the time I took off for FMLA reasons was considered a vacation and I wasn't allowed to take unpaid time off for actual vacations after using all of my PTO on FMLA days. Additionally, HR refuses to properly discipline serious infractions, including employees caught doing drugs on the property, or leaving campus for hours while staying clocked in. Supervisors are made to believe that they have the power to make decisions, but really it is HR calling the shots and making the decisions, but making it seem like it's the supervisor. When I tried to take unpaid time off for a vacation, my supervisor was fine with it, but HR wasn't, and when my supervisor told me that HR denied it, she got in trouble because she wasn't supposed to let me know that it was HR's decision, she was supposed to make it sound like it came from her. Second, management is the worst. There is a manager in one of the departments who is either the nicest guy or the worst, depending on whether he likes you or not. If you're on his good side, you're golden. But the second you do something to get on his bad side, he'll never forgive you, and make your time there miserable. He will talk badly about you to other employees, blow every little move out of proportion, and create a very toxic work environment. He is mentally abusive to those he doesn't like, including one of the supervisors. He berates her for every little move she makes and talks badly about her to other employees, which in turn, creates friction between the supervisor and her employees. The company itself claims to listen to employees and create a friendly work environment, and maybe at one point that was true, but in the last few years, the quality of upper management has diminished. Upper management no longer cares about making sure the departments are adequately staffed, yet they want their numbers to continue to increase, causing extreme stress and burnout from the employees they do have. They also don't pay enough for all of the stuff that you have to deal with, but continuously wonder why they aren't able to retain their good employees. They're driving out their best employees and they don't seem to care. Lastly, if you find yourself on a support team (anything that isn't in the lab), good luck being listened to or treated with any sort of respect. Any team that doesn't actually create revenue is treated like garbage and an expendable part of the company, no matter how vital they actually are. I worked in the Reporting department and we were constantly told that we didn't need more staff and that our jobs weren't that important because we didn't generate revenue, despite the fact that we created the product that the sponsor was paying for. The whole company is just a big joke and I give it a few more years before Nelson Labs completely flops.

Vantaggi

-Supportive coworkers at the team level -Opportunity to gain initial experience in a lab environment -Can serve as a stepping stone early in a career to help get you to the next best organization

Svantaggi

-Compensation may not be competitive compared to similar laboratories in the local market -Benefits structure should be reviewed closely; plan pricing may result in selection of high-deductible options (e.g., around $10,000 for family coverage), leading to significant out-of-pocket exposure -Advancement opportunities may be discussed but are not always realized in a meaningful or timely way -Compensation increases (not by much) when provided, may be minimal relative to expanded responsibilities -Noticeable disconnect at times between leadership priorities and the needs of employees supporting day-to-day operations -Workplace environment can feel high-pressure and, at times, tense; interactions may come across as cautious rather than collaborative -Leadership may appear overextended, which can contribute to broader organizational strain -Workload expectations may not always align with compensation and available support -There are instances where employees may feel unheard or insufficiently recognized, which can contribute to lower morale and engagement. -Compensation practices may not always appear consistent across similar roles, which can create concerns around internal equity and recognition of long-term contributions.
