Vantaggi
The only positive I can safely take from my time with NIT are the technicians that work there. They are treated with such disrespect by the owner and 3/4 of the management team but keep doing an excellent job. I have been in IT for close to 15 years and the techs do great work for what they have and the poor direction they are thrown into. They make the best of every abysmal situation they are placed into by management and for that are deserving of much more than NIT.
Svantaggi
Cons, where to begin? I worked for the employer prior to NIT for 4 years. I left because I was searching for a position with a higher ceiling. I found a job posting for a System Administrator with NIT, which was my current position at the time, so I applied. When I interviewed however I was lead to believe the position was actually more of a management position with minimal travel. Wrong on all accounts. From day one I was a field service tech because the owner had no idea as to the scope of which he was hiring me for. I quickly learned that the owner in fact did zero research in starting or running an IT company. As I mentioned, I have had a number of years of experience in a variety of IT Departments, both small and large and this was by far the worst I have ever encountered. From an IT standpoint it is a duct taped, throw darts at a dart board, flip a coin type of approach. The decisions that are made at times are baffling. Almost to the point of being laughable. The fact that the administration staff consists of 4 people, all of which have zero experience in IT speaks volumes, in my opinion. This also caused a constant and unsettling rift between the technicians and the management staff. The only management team member that had a clear enough picture was the office manager, but even he would find himself belittled and berated by the Owner. I have never worked for someone with such disregard for the mental well being of his employees. He is a labor lawsuit waiting to happen for creating and encouraging such a toxic work environment. In all of my years working I have never been treated in such a manor. I saw him make threats of physical harm to other employees. I was even questioned in regards to my ability to be a parent. He crosses lines that no employer has the right to cross. I have never worked in a place so focused on punishment and have such neglect for reward in my entire life. The owner also has zero tact when it comes to speaking with clients. I was witness to a few occasions where I felt the air get sucked out of the room when he tried to sell a solution. I have never witnessed a more cringe inducing approach to human interaction. Overall, I will say another positive, which is I will never again act as if the grass is always greener. I thought that prior to coming on board to NIT and I was quickly jostled into reality.
