Vantaggi
The owner is always open to new ideas and things to try out. He's very interested in making his software better than anyone else's. It was really nice to also have access to the developers without having to go thru a middle man. When there were bumps, if there was an answer, it was usually fixed by the next day. Also the work life balance was pretty good. I rarely got a call when I was off.
Svantaggi
It is a small business so there isn't a lot of room to move. When it came time for my review, and agreed to pay increase, it was always postponed because something would come up. Management didn't really know how to delegate tasks and responsibilities in a timely manner, so everything was always an emergency. Management also doesn't keep track of employee workload. In my specific instance, they would assign me large projects, and then keep asking me to do "small tasks" that were high priority. Ended up loosing a large sales opportunity because of it.
Pay/benefits wise: Make sure you cash that check THAT day! Payroll was always a constant concern because if you waited over the weekend, whatever bills that came Monday morning would cancel out your paycheck and you would have to go thru an ordeal to get your money. Was also promised medical benefits, but when my med benefit was supposed to go live, it never did. Turns out Blue Shield was issuing the cards, but ownership was never paying for the benefit. With regard to Pay Structure, I was paid very low compared to my position at other companies in that industry
