We'd gone through 6 recruiters in one year. I do feel like burnout happens quickly and you have to be ready to deal with disrespectful managers with a smile on your face. Which can become very old pretty quickly. I don't even think the issue is with leadership on the HR team as it's more of just some of the personalities you have to deal with. It can feel discouraging after time and time, especially knowing that a lot of these salaries are pretty high and you don't feel appreciated for any of the work you do as a recruiter. There's only so much your team can do for you. I do feel that for recruitment the managers will probably respond to men a lot better than women. I hate to say that, but often times in my I time here I'd leave work defeated. The role is almost like sales. The setup of recruitment isn't like other large construction companies who have a system in place and managers who are understanding and adaptable to that system. It's also a much smaller team. Once a year hits that's pretty much it. We also did not get raises, or bonuses which was disappointing because last year this team worked their butts off and we essentially got nothing and no one saw any value.

Strong emphasis on safety and quality across operations has always been #1 in the 11 years I have been with the company. Senior leadership encourages continuous improvement and cross-department collaboration. Opportunities to grow into larger roles if you show initiative and have the drive to be coached. Solid benefits package and work-life balance is improving. Company culture is shifting in a positive direction with more communication from our new CEO. In 11 years, all of my superiors have been honest and transparent with me while growing within the company.

Penhall Company has built a reputation that, on the surface, might seem solid, but behind the scenes, it’s a whole different story, one driven by greed, favoritism, and a complete disregard for the people who actually hold the place together. It’s a company where effort and knowledge don’t matter nearly as much as knowing the right people or kissing the right boots. The ones who barely lift a finger, who don’t know what they’re doing half the time, somehow get praised, promoted, and paid top dollar, while the real workers, the ones breaking their backs and keeping the wheels turnin, get overlooked, underpaid, and disrespected. The company loves to talk about loyalty and “family,” but when it comes down to it, they’ll throw away good, hardworking people like nothing if it saves them a few dollars or if someone higher up gets uncomfortable with being shown up by someone who actually knows their job. It’s disheartening to watch skilled workers with years of experience get ignored or let go, while the clueless ones sit comfortably, protected by favoritism and office politics. In the end, Penhall isn’t about hard work or value, it’s about playing a dirty game, and if you’re not in their circle, you’re just disposable. They scam customers. Also not enough work, sometimes you’ll sit at home for 1 week while certain people get over 70 hours consistently.
