Company has inconsistent career development opportunities. Engineering career ladder is pretty formal and there is an annual promotion opportunity to staff and principal engineer. However, for other roles it's left to the whims of your senior executive and manager to make the effort to file paperwork and fight for a promotion. In many cases, there is just no opportunity unless someone leaves the company or retires and that can take many years.
