Vantaggi
The work does have a positive impact on schools and students, and mission-driven for the most part. Where interaction with students and service users is had, it can be quite pleasant.
Svantaggi
- Not a very diverse team, and also quite hostile/ unpleasant dealing with management. - Lack of diversity in seniority and micromanagement meant this was probably one of my least favourite working environments. High turnover of diverse staff members which, I believe, speaks to the work that needs to be done to create better spaces for underrepresented communities. - Not particularly supportive to entry-level staff members, nor was there any formal/ informal learning and development opportunities. The work felt very 'checkbox' and there was no appetite to try new things. - Whilst the team generally were quite pleasant, it did feel like an awkward working environment and a few experiences of micro aggressions.
Vantaggi
Friendly and passionate colleagues who genuinely care about the mission. The company's work does have a positive impact on students and schools. Some teams have a good atmosphere, depending on your manager. Good benefits for a company of this size.
Svantaggi
Micromanagement at every level, with routine tasks (even emails) requiring leadership team approval. Leadership team has little external management experience, resulting in poor decision making and a 'boys club' culture at the top. The company claims to value innovation but is startlingly resistant to new ideas or change. Every decision must go through the leadership team and employees are penalised for not following instructions exactly. No appetite for experimentation or creative thinking, for example, Unifrog has made no attempt to explore or implement AI even as it becomes standard across the sector. All communication must use the company's approved voice. Individuality is discouraged and enforced sameness is the norm. Your experience and progression depend almost entirely on your manager. Without advocacy, you are unlikely to see a pay rise or promotion, as there are no annual pay rises or standard progression paths. Pay is consistently well below market rates, most advertised roles are 20-30% below what similar jobs offer, especially in London tech or EdTech. Work-life balance is more of a slogan than a reality, especially during busy periods.
