If you're reading this, then you are probably considering whether to work at VPS. Don't do it. That is my only advice, and I can't stress it enough. Aside from some lovely people at VPS, who don't last due to it being such a toxic place to work, there are no redeeming features of life at VPS. Erm....... parking is free, I suppose.

The environment at VPS leads to a revolving door of staff like I've never seen before. Across all departments and levels of the organisation you have a mixture of constant leavers and new starters due to staff constantly leaving for better conditions. This leads to a lack of knowledge, consistency and real business direction, which is reflected in business performance. Training? Don't expect that. No-one has time to train or to provide any kind of formal induction plan. You are expected to get on with the job from day one and after a bedding in period are looked down on for those things you haven't managed to self-learn. The lack of staff due to poor retention leads to heavy workloads across the board. Combined with lack of training this leads to an environment severely lacking in smiles and positivity. You'll be able to tread water at best, with no recognition for the effort you are putting in to even achieve survival. Work/life balance? I mean, if living to work is your thing, you may like it. Having things you like to do in the evenings and at weekend is something you may have to reconsider. Who needs personal interests anyway? Don't expect to be paid overtime or given your time back, this is covered in the "other duties as necessary" part of your contract. Micromanagement is rife at VPS. There is a severe lack of trust in the staff which damages morale further, with managers preferring to blame those trying to do the job for any failures rather than stepping back to examine the culture and environment that exists. It's very much a "do as I say" approach rather than staff being encouraged to offer suggestions, solutions, and being actively involved in helping to make the world of VPS a better place. Location wise the Chadderton office is literally in the middle of nowhere. You're on a looooong industrial road with little to nothing in the surrounding area. So don't expect to be able to nip out for lunch, or for a nice walk with colleagues. If you dare to venture out, expect to be clock-watched and your break time closely monitored. Poor benefits. When "free parking" is listed as one, you know you're scraping the barrel. Very rigid working hours, long working hours, and certain periods of the year when you are simply not allowed to take any holidays, restricting an already poor allowance compared to what is offered elsewhere on the market.
