Vantaggi
- Remote Flexibility: The ability to work from Colombia for a US-based firm was a plus, and the onboarding process for the remote setup was relatively smooth. - Technical Exposure: Working with a major client like CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) provides exposure to complex, global systems and high-level technical challenges.
Svantaggi
- Zero Job Security ("Shadow Layoffs"): Workstate operates strictly as a staff augmentation firm without a safety net. If CAS reduces its workforce, Workstate terminates your contract immediately. There is no "bench" time and no effort to reallocate talent to other projects. You are essentially a disposable asset to both the client and the agency. - Disconnected Management & Culture: The internal culture is non-existent. Communication is limited to payroll logistics and bi-weekly 1:1s with managers who have no context regarding your daily tasks or technical contributions. You are effectively an island within the organization. - Burnout-Prone Environment: Because you are embedded in a highly competitive, global "always-on" culture at the client level, the work-life balance is poor. There is constant pressure to be available across multiple time zones without any advocacy from Workstate management. - Voluntary Exit vs. Termination: I chose to leave voluntarily, but I witnessed colleagues who stayed being terminated the moment their specific client contract ended. If you are looking for a career rather than a temporary gig, look elsewhere.
