"How do you handle a difficult customer?"

I think I said I would calmly listen to the customers complaint and try to find a solution. If I'm unable to, then I would find a manager to take over the situation. Hate this question because there are so many variables in each situation with an unhappy customer. Don't really know if that is the correct answer, but it seems like basic common sense.
