Pros:
The company's recent merger indicates growth in the life sciences consulting space, and the initial HR screening was professional.
Cons:
I interviewed for a Senior Medical Writer position, and the experience with the hiring manager was highly unsettling. During the interview, she made a "joke" about preferring someone who was Canadian-born because Canada Day was approaching. This felt deeply exclusionary and inappropriate for a professional setting.Furthermore, when I asked if the company could accommodate a 1-2 day in-office schedule (instead of 3) due to specific family caregiving responsibilities, the manager bluntly responded, "No way." She explicitly stated that even if HR were to approve an accommodation, she would personally still expect her direct reports to be in the office more than three days a week.
Advice to Management:
Management needs to conduct comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training for hiring managers. Leaders should also be trained on how to handle accommodation requests professionally and legally, rather than shutting them down based on personal bias.
