Ho presentato la mia candidatura tramite un selezionatore. La procedura ha richiesto 5 giorni. Ho sostenuto un colloquio presso Arcadia.io (Pittsburgh, PA) nel mese di ott 2018

      Colloquio

I was contacted via LinkedIn about an available position at the company through an external recruiter. After going over my current work experience with the recruiter on the phone, I scheduled a phone call with a Director of Engineering at Arcadia the next day. Following our phone conversation, we scheduled an in-person interview the next business day (Monday). The in-person interview process was great, a panel came in an asked me questions related to my professional work experience as well as some behavioral questions to gauge my responses to various situations. After the panel, there was a 1 on 1 with the director who gave me a white board interview. Basic programming concepts were covered: objects and their properties in Java, SQL statements and joins, and a question pertaining to recursion. None of these questions were difficult per say, but I feel that they were more an inquisition as to how you'd approach a problem rather than seeing if you could solve it. A casual lunch was covered by Arcadia which really drove home the message that they care about hiring great talent and treating their employees well. A wonderful interview process, start to finish.

      Colloquio

I interviewed with several people at the company, including those on the team. First off, when the director of Recruiting asked for what I wanted in compensation, they responded, "We'll try our best to meet industry standard, but we make up for it in cutting edge technology and unique experiences." That was a huge red flag to basically offer to pay in exposure. This was in the first interview too. The rest of the interviews went incredibly well, and I sent my impressions to the director of recruiting, as they asked me to. I asked for a follow-up and heard nothing, eventually I was told I'd be contacted at "this time". "That time" came and passed and still no response, I sent another follow up email. When I didn't hear anything back after two weeks, I cut my losses. I then get an email a month later that was filled with typing errors and excuses. They stated that they hired someone else, which would have been fine, but then said they tried so hard to get me hired as well since they liked me so much but couldn't find anything. They told me they'd keep in touch. Well, the position is still listed on the website and they didn't even bother to do what they said they would in terms of keeping in touch. The whole process took three weeks and they expected me to interview over five times. They asked me to be prompt and interview as soon as possible but then proceeded to not respond to any of my emails until a month later. If you're going to ask this, I expect the same prompt courtesy. The salary I asked for was on the lower side considering my experience and was lower from what past/current employees are reporting for the same position. So there is no reason why they cannot pay industry standard, guess they just didn't want to and hoped to pay someone even less. To then send an email a month and a half after no response and not even proofread tells me I dodged a bullet. Very unprofessional for a recruiter let alone a head of the recruiting department to act this way. Recruiting and HR are the forefront of the company, and if they're unprofessional it's very telling that the company is not worth the time.

      Colloquio

Arcadia is the most disorganized company I've ever spoken with. I was initially contacted on LinkedIn by a recruiter and discussed the roles at Arcadia via a short call and followed up by meeting for coffee. Sounded like a great fit and my info was forwarded along. I kept being told that I should hear back soon. Over a month later I finally get a call scheduled with the hiring manager for the position I was most interested in. I didn't receive a call and was told he didn't have my number. Rescheduled for later that day and had the call which I thought went well. Two weeks later (after some prodding) I find out the manager I spoke with left the company. Two weeks after that I have a phone call with the head of engineering and discuss the several teams and where I'd fit best. I'm told by the recruiter he wants to bring me onsite. Arcadia waffled around with scheduling and I'm told a week later that they want me to have a phone call with another person. I then have a confusing call with a product manager on an unrelated team and later find out I was mixed up with another candidate. They realize their mistake and schedule a call with the correct manager the following week. We come to the conclusion that I fit best on his team. Another week goes by and I'm told they're not moving forward with me after all. I'll take this as a learning experience and in the future I will lean towards withdrawing candidacy before wasting considerable time and effort when there are so many red flags. Arcadia is not a young company and although they may have tried to reinvent themselves in recent years it's obvious they are still struggling with the fundamentals.
