I applied online in January 2018 and I was immediately invited to take an online assessment which comprised of situational and competency questions based on a scenario. It also involved interpreting some data based on a number of graphs.
This assessment was followed by an online interview on HireVue which followed the same scenario as before. There were 3 stages, the first one involving analysing some data and answering a few questions in 12 minutes based on some input(articles and graphs). In the second stage I was asked how I would behave in certain situations related to the scenario (I am leading a team that develops a smartwatch app that enables contactless cash withdrawal). I was asked what I would do if someone on the team noticed an issue and thinks the project manager doesn't need to know about it, the team discovered a way to fix the issues but this would involve delaying the release data, etc. I was also asked to write a draft email to the sponsors of this project in order to inform them about my decision. The final stage comprised of motivational and typical competency-based questions.
The final assessment was on-site, at Barclaycard HQ in Northampton, and there were 2 stages, a 'business meeting' and a one-to-one interview. The business meeting was a continuation of the scenario followed by the other 2 assessments. I was presented a problem and had 10 minutes to come up with a strategy in order to solve it. The problem was: 'After release, the smartwatch app which was supposed to enable contactless cash withdrawal seems to not work properly. A large number of people posted on Twitter about the fact that it doesn't let them withdraw cash.' After the 10 minutes of preparation, I talked the assessor through my strategy which asked questions at times. After that, he started to introduce new details which we hadn't been told before in order to make you come up with other solutions on the spot (e.g. the app is not available in the UK only, it is available worldwide this time, the developers who are supposed to fix the issue are currently working on more important projects, etc.). At the end, I was asked questions about what I learned from this exercise.
The final interview consisted mostly of questions related to the company's values(respect, integrity, service, excellence, stewardship) and motivation for the role. There wasn't anything you wouldn't expect. I had been previously asked to provide a CV but wasn't asked any questions related to it. However, in my answers for the questions I talked about university projects as well as extra-curricular activities.
I was called the day after to get feedback from the interview get a response whether I got a place or not. I wasn't offered a place even though the feedback was mostly positive. They told me I had a really good performance in the business meeting and the question about the company's values but the interviewer would have expected me to talk about the job more from a business point of view, not software-related.
