There were multiple 30-to-45-minute individual interviews. The first one was with HR and was pretty straight forward. The others were with different stakeholders in the organization. The individual interviews were mostly organic and not structured.

Sent in my resume and cover letter; was contacted right away via e-mail for phone screen; phone screen led to in-person interview within a week. They told me it was a key position and they wanted to move fast on it. They hurriedly set up my phone screen and in-person interview and then radio silent for two weeks. While the work environment is high energy, the interview structure was quite odd. I didn't meet with a HR representative, instead I talked with an employee with an ancillary position to the one I was applying for, and I didn't see her connection to why she was interviewing me. The questions were a bit unstructured and nebulous, and didn’t match the job description. The interview was more like a dialog from another planet. I then met with one of the founders who was more interested in checking his phone than asking me questions or listening to my answers. My impression of Carvana (which was confirmed during my interview with one of the founders) is that they are struggling to find order in a company that is growing rapidly. While there is a "cool vibe" that no doubt attracts hoards of Millennials, the work environment is one of such casual-ness that it can quickly slide into pandemonium and chaos. It was a good experience but I’m not that disappointed it didn’t work out. However, if you get an interview, good luck and don't worry about researching information about the company ahead of time.
