      Colloquio

Horrible candidate experience. This a stage A start-up based in Australia with most employees located in that country. The opening they had was for a US based Account Executive role in anticipation of US expansion-- according to them. The first round was a screening call with the HR and the second round was a panel interview with the CEO and Chief of Growth. HR lady explained recruitment process in detail and mentioned process normally involves several interviews with CEO/Chief Growth and a final take-home assessment (unpaid). My second interview with the CEO/Chief of Growth felt more like an interrogation than an actual interview (question after another non-stop). Questions were directly related to sales processes and strategies used with your current and/or past employers. You can tell they were looking for specific answers on to how to do ‘certain’ things specifically around large businesses accounts. CEO was very interested in knowing the content (formatting, structure, etc.) of any sales presentation decks or client facing materials you’ve worked from current or past employers, which could be a proprietary breach here in the US. I tried to generalize most of my answers but they insisted in specific details. 30-mts into the meeting I immediately knew this was an informational type of interview, where company is looking to find solutions for an upcoming market expansion (US) or gather free consultancy from candidates. The CEO or Chief of Growth never talked about the actual role (duties/expectations) and career path/growth which was another clear indicator that there was something fishy here. In the end, I was very surprised about CEO’s lack of key skills needed for effective interviewing, which is highly unusual for an individual at this executive level. Save your time and energy and don’t apply for these types of start-ups with shady practices.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience with us left a negative impression, but we respectfully disagree with some of your points. At Coviu, we are committed to a transparent and thorough hiring process, especially for strategic roles such as the US-based Account Executive position. Our interview questions are designed to assess candidates' experience in relevant areas, including their experience developing and leading sales processes and strategies, which are crucial to expanding into new markets. We understand the importance of confidentiality and are mindful of the proprietary information candidates share; we certainly don't intend to overstep those boundaries. Regarding the interview structure, we aim to dive deeply into a candidate's experience to ensure alignment with our company's needs, but we also strive to provide insights into the role and growth opportunities and provide an opportunity for candidates to ask any questions too. If that wasn’t made clear during your interview, we’ll review how we can improve communication in this regard and would welcome a direct discussion at jobs@coviu.com. We genuinely appreciate the time you invested and wish you the best in your career search. If you’d like to provide further details or discuss your experience, feel free to reach out directly.
