About one week after my application, the HR sent me an e-mail for scheduling a call with them . The interview had no technical questions. It was focused more on understanding my profile (studies, working experience) and informing me about their company and the role.
The next step was to do a project for them; build a PHP web application. The available time for completing it was 1 week.
The project itself is not difficult if you have some real life experience with PHP. But for me, with mostly Java and Python background, it was a bit more time consuming. I spend more time reading than actually focusing on design/implementation and handling some corner cases.
Even though, they knew my expertise area was not PHP, they solely focused their evaluation on those corner cases that I did not handle. They should have focused more on the fact that with almost no PHP experience, I managed to deliver something functional, within a week, that met the project requirements.
