They were interested primarily in relationship modeling and how that would get represented in either raw SQL or the Rails ORM. They did not explicitly ask for Ruby or Rails experience but it was clear in the end that they were looking for Rails-specific engineers.

In these sorts of interviews you really need to drill down and understand what the interviewer is looking for.
