A friend of mine had initially worked for the startup and highly recommended it, so when I saw a relevant posting, I applied. My friend was able to connect me with the right person so I was interviewed immediately. Everything started off great. The first round was very introductory, typical “tell me about yourself and your background” followed by some behavioural questions. Before moving to the second round, I was given an “events challenge” where I had to send over some collateral and I think I did a pretty good job, it was very well received by the hiring team. Then I had the second interview with the hiring team, I was asked to elaborate on my response for the challenge, which again went very well. I was set to have a third interview with the remaining members of the Operations team and was told that a final decision would be made the week after. So I spoke to the rest of the team, again a great experience - we had some great conversation. I waited a week and did not receive a response, so I reached out to the hiring manager for a follow-up. I found it very weird that she did not respond to me directly, she had referred me to the Recruiting Coordinator who had organized and scheduled all the interviews instead. Nonetheless, the Recruiter said the team was still in the process of interviewing other candidates so it would take another 1 to 2 weeks. It was very strange because they kept changing their timeline. I reached out to the recruiter again to update her on my end, I had received another offer but Formlabs was still first on my list, however, I had until April 12th to make a final decision. It is April 12th today, and I have still not heard back from them. Given that each one of my interviews had gone so well, I really don’t understand why the team could not be transparent with me as a candidate. Regardless of whether I am applying for an internship or VP level executive role, I strongly feel that every company should be transparent about their intentions with their candidates. Regardless of whether I was selected for the role or not, I made it to the final round of interviews and I felt very disrespected for not being updated periodically. I understand that with a startup environment comes quite a bit of leniency, however, in my experience, this team was just unprofessional and lacks initiative.
