A recruiter approached me on Linkedin. We talked by phone. Had to fill their form to apply for the Job. It is extremely long - but I'm fine with it. Then got a mail asking me to do a task - answering a question in HireVue. You have 2 shots: you can think of an answer for a minute, then answer it, watch yourself, see that you are not happy with the outcome, answer again - THIS TIME YOU CAN'T WATCH YOURSELF - and that's it. It is extremely impersonal. It seems they select their employees by who is photogenic or who pass well via camera. This question could be asked by phone - by the same recruiter who approached me. Or by writing - in that extremely long form. Or in a regular interview / zoom interview in which you have a conversation with the person in front of you.
