Colloquio
The whole process was a bit chaotic. The first point of contact was the interview bot that orchestrated the technical challenge. The challenge itself was relatively simple (write a DNS client using third party libraries) but the conflicting instructions were offered up depending on where you looked.
The first human contact was from someone in the "talent acquisition" department. They were able to remember my name, but not who I was, what role I applied for, or even what time zone I was in. They insisted on a half hour call to go over rudimentary interview best practices where they then realized the next interview time slots were a month out. On their second attempt at a pre-interview call they were somewhat condescending and entirely disinterested.
The actual interview portion of the process was fine (3x 45-minute Zoom interviews back to back). The interviewers also had no idea what role I'd applied for but were generally pleasant and somewhat engaged even though they all had to stick to a script. A different "talent acquisition" person chimed in before the third interview to move us over to a different Zoom call.
After the last interviewer wrapped up they stated I should expect a response within 48 hours. By then the Microsoft hiring freeze landed and unsurprisingly I was ghosted by Github.
After a week I reached out to one of the "talent partners" (née recruiters) and was pawned off on yet another "talent partners" who was non-responsive.
The whole process was poorly organized and rather unpleasant. I can definitely understand why the plurality of reviews tag the Github interview experience as negative.
