      Colloquio

Long interview, rather difficult but a great way to get a feel for the company and meet some of the people you will be working with. Four parts that went like this : 1- telephone interview, asking about your experience, what you think of recruitment, why do you think you would be good at it. Research the company because you will be asked about your knowledge of them. 2- face to face interview, focuses on competency questions. Be ready to talk about your skills and demonstrate how you developed them. There will be anywhere between 1 and 4 role plays as well. They are a bit of fun, but you need to be prepared for them mentally, Because they will try to throw you all sorts of curveballs and objections. Mine was pretending to call a client who wasn't happy about the candidates I sent them. I gave the options of talking to the candidate or sending someone new asap, and got positive feedback. I was told straight away the interviewer was happy with me and she mentioned I would be invited back to an assessment centre. 3- definitely the hardest part, lasted 5 hours and there were 5 other candidates. We started with a long presentation on Hays and the two people running the assessment centre ( be ready to ask lots of questions, they want to see you being inquisitive). During the presentation about Hays you will also be asked little facts about Hays like their values, try to be the first one to mention them! Then you are asked to stand up and talk about yourself and why you chose Hays ( lots of people just started talking about their current jobs and how their responsabilties are similar to a consultant's, however I think they're more looking for you to demonstrate the Hays values in your personality and to show resilience and drive). After the presentation you start he role plays: you go in random order and you're given a random scenario, in which you always have to get a meeting regarding a vacancy you could fill. This is where you need to be very very convincing, and you have to show you can think on your feet. They will sometimes be rude, or cut you off, or be very stubborn, just to show you how bad the clients can be. Try to keep smiling because they can hear it in your voice ( they're not facing you because it's meant to be over the phone). And always keep a positive attitude and try to push for your candidates. Don't let them end the call! The next exercise is writing a job advert ( make sure you write it neatly because you won't read it back, they will after you leave). You have some time before writing it to ask any questions about the things that are missing from the advert, makes sure to be very thorough. 4. The last role play, you will be given 3 CVs, each with they own flaws, and you will need to sell the candidate you think is best for the job. There's no wrong answer, just choose whoever you like best. You have to make up stories about their employment so get creative! You will do this in a separate room, just with the interviewer, like a real meeting. You will get objections again, But you have to convince them to interview your candidate first. Then we were dismissed and I got a call regarding the last meeting. This was a f2f interview with a director and then a manager. They were both asking about my experience and how I think I would do working in recruitment. They both tried to get a feel of my personality and if I would fit in with the team. There was a role play as well, I had to sell myself as a candidate to the director for the job I applied for. Very interesting and nerve wracking but I was told I did well. The manager was very relaxed, we just had a little chat about earnings and work life balance and what's it like in the office. After that I was dismissed. Got a call back soon being offered the job. It was a great experience, lots of feedback every time, met some incredible people!! The whole process made me really excited about working with everyone. Can't wait to start.

The pre-screening session felt quite rushed, and I didn’t really have the opportunity to fully introduce my background as the interviewer often moved on before I could finish my responses. This made the conversation feel one-sided. Unfortunately, it also gave me a less positive impression of the interview culture, and I decided not to proceed with the second round.

Recruitment can be quite challenging and fast-paced. What attracts you to this field?

First it was a pre-screening call, then you'll be given a time slot to attend what is called as assessment centre. It's usually within a group setting and there's 3 parts of to it as well. There's the ice breaker, debate session and role play - all to test your critical thinking skills under pressure. Some might find it daunting and challenging and might not even make it past the first round. They will give you feedback on your answers and it's an eye-opener. Don't let it dishearten you, take it as a learning curve. If you wanna be prepared for any other interviews, just go and get yourself interviewed at Hays first, you'll ace all the other interviews because you'll already be ready for any challenging questions.
