Having spent most of my adult life in the military I had a difficult time addressing this question for a commercial industry. I do not identify with monetary profit as my bottom line for success. I told them that I feel that success is measured by how well the whole team performs compared to the goals as well as what people's attitudes are towards the team. After all, for a business, what people think of you tends to be a reflection of how likely they will be to do business with you in the future, thus being a measure of success.
