Spoke with the hiring manager for approximately an hour about my experience and qualifications. Conversation went well until the topic of compensation. Hiring manager suggested $80k for a PhD with five years of relevant experience. We were off by about 50% and passed on moving forward due to the large difference in expected pay without addressing other parts of the benefits package. Appreciated the honesty and didn’t waste either one’s time moving forward with the interview.
