      Colloquio

This company should be ashamed of itself. I applied to their advertised "Full-Time Technical Publications Staff" role with a Master's degree and several years of experience doing the same job for a major US airline. I completed a personality test, 4 rounds of interviews, and a work sample over the course of 6-8 weeks. During this process, there were long stretches of no communication, promises of updates that never came, followed by a sudden and urgent request to complete a work sample in 2 days instead of the 5 business days printed on the work sample instructions. Given the time and effort they demand of applicants, I found the lack of reciprocal communication so unprofessional and disrespectful that it raised some red flags for me. I contacted former employees on LinkedIn to learn about their experience and get a better sense of whether this is a company I'd even want to work for. None of those who responded reported a positive experience and all had left within a couple years. Still, I had sunk so much time and energy into the interview process that I decided to see it through. When I finally reached the last interview (with the CEO, which I found a little odd for a fairly junior/mid-level position) I was met with enthusiasm and presented with an offer: I could choose between the full-time staff role for which I had applied and interviewed, or a contract job. When I learned that the contract rate amounted to half the advertised full-time salary--that is, half the market rate for experienced airline technical writers--with no guarantee of hours, I accepted the full-time offer instead. At that point, I was told that they "didn't have any openings available" and received another hard-sell on the contractor position. I was astonished. I'm not sure how in good faith a company drags its applicants through such a lengthy and intensive interview process, presents an offer, and then claims not to have any openings after all. This company and its CEO should be cited in some way for these unethical bait-and-switch practices. Shame on them.

      Domanda 1

What experience do you have writing for airlines, and what experience do you have with structured authoring software?
