This process initially started positively with a great phone interview with a competent and engaging Recruiter. Once invited to meet in person, I was confronted with a surly, unfriendly leader who did not attempt to “sell” the culture, opportunity, or team. The leader barely cracked a smile, and stuck to a rigid script whose essence was “how exactly will you fit in with us”. I was also asked to prepare for a mock presentation and was given a laptop from 1998 on which to prepare. It was a very uncomfortable, unwelcoming, and unfriendly experience. Regardless of whether someone gets selected, companies should want candidates to walk away wishing they could have landed a job with them so they can be advocates for the company, indirectly. I walked out grateful the interview was over.
