The job interview for the English teaching position was a great opportunity to showcase my skills and passion for teaching. I had the chance to discuss my teaching experience, lesson planning strategies, and my approach to creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students. The interviewers were friendly and asked thoughtful questions about my teaching philosophy and how I would handle different classroom situations. Overall, it was a positive and rewarding experience!

Colloquio
The interview was conducted by Zoom video, and started abruptly 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. Interviewer was wearing a mask which muffled her voice and made it very difficult to hear the questions asked. Many questions were directed at my past work history: "Why did you quit that job?" "You only worked there for seven months, so why did you quit?" and so on.
When the interviewer said, "Do you have any questions?" I asked if they have a curriculum; the immediate response was "Yes we have" (without offering any evidence of, or actual example of a curriculum). When I asked if the classrooms contained teaching resources and learning materials; for example CDs and a CD player, the immediate response was, spoken in an accusatory tone: "Why do you need a CD player?"
Suddenly and without warning the interviewer said, "Wait a moment" and left the room, returning one minute later with another mask-wearing interviewer. This person then hurriedly introduced herself but was inaudible due to the mask. The questioning changed tack to attack my own teaching abilities: "Are you a comedian" "How do you make the children laugh?" "We need a performer...can you perform?" It was as if the questioner's mind was already made up, and I was haplessly reinforcing her preconceived opinions.
