I applied online and was emailed the next day by a talent acquisition adviser who setup a phone interview for the following day. The phone interview was pleasant and conversational with a few STAR questions. I was told during the call that I would be moving on to the next step where I would interview with two team leaders in Chicago. I was asked to send her a list of my accomplishments and an explanation of my desire to work at Merck following the call and I was encouraged to reach out to the other sales reps in my territory to discuss the position in greater detail. The other sales reps were extremely helpful and more than willing to discuss the role. The follow-up interview in Chicago occurred a few weeks later and I met with the two team leads for my territory, followed by a one-on-one with the U.S. marketing director, followed by a one-on-one with an HR rep to discuss benefits. All of the interactions were extremely positive and conversational with general questions about my background, experience, and only a few STAR questions. After following up by email ~one week later, one of the team leads called and said that it came down to me and another candidate, but they went with someone who had more experience and they would consider me for positions on the team in the future.
